I love trying to capture the atmosphere and energy of a place like New York and it’s a subject I return to often. What I particularly like about this painting is the simplification of the subject and the freedom with which the paint’s been applied. I tried to create a balance between the cooler left-hand side of the painting with the warmer tones of the foreground building on the right-hand side. It always feels good when I capture a view that I could imagine myself stepping right in to!
