CITYSCAPE WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS

I’m drawn to cities for their energy, architecture and atmosphere – from quiet backstreets to well-known landmarks. Many of my cityscape paintings are inspired by places I’ve encountered while travelling, including Brighton, New York, London and Barcelona. I’m particularly interested in the way light moves across buildings, reflects in windows and transforms familiar places into something momentarily extraordinary.

Working in watercolour allows me to capture shifting light and fleeting detail with immediacy and sensitivity. Some paintings develop from sketches made on location, while others evolve in the studio, where I can refine the composition and atmosphere more fully.

If you’re drawn to natural scenery, you may also enjoy my Landscape Watercolour Paintings, while my Interior Watercolour Paintings explore quieter, more intimate spaces. You can read more about the ideas and process behind the work on my blog, Brushes with Watercolour.

“We are so pleased with the watercolour we bought from John, it is a beautiful painting and I don’t think we’ll ever tire of looking at it. John captures the impression of sunlight and shade perfectly, conveying the atmosphere of Mediterranean warmth and relaxation as people meander through the square.”

Mr and Mrs D. Smith, Hove, UK

“I am very proud to be the happy owner of “this calm and sunny hour at the end of the day after work”. The night will come and dreams will build again the hope of tomorrow.

Je suis très fier d’être l’heureux propriétaire de “cette heure calme et ensoleillée en cette fin de journée après le travail”. La nuit va venir et les rêves vont construire à nouveau l’espoir de demain.
Thank you John (Merci John). Didier R”
