Some of you may recall one of my sketches from our recent trip to Barcelona:

It’s not an iconic scene, more one of those everyday scenes that you might equally happen across in so many other cities in so many other countries.
Even so, we happened across this scene in Barcelona so I’m going to stick with it! There was a lot about this view that I liked and I was keen to have a play with this on a larger scale. Here’s my quarter sheet painting based on the sketch and my reference photos:

There’s a lot I like in this painting, not least some evidence of the recent course I’ve been on for how to paint with green in watercolour!
Exhibition news
Brighton’s annual Artists Open Houses 2022 Exhibition starts soon, showcasing the work of a huge number of artists in hundreds of people’s homes, as well as galleries and studios across the city.
I’m delighted to have been invited to show my work again at the wonderful Starling Studios.
I’ll be showing my work over two weekends, the 14-15 and the 21-22nd May, from 11am – 5pm. I’ll be there in person all day on Saturday 14th May, and from 2.30-5pm on Sunday 15th May. If anyone’s in the vicinity, please do drop by, it’d be lovely to see a friendly face or two!
The following weekend, 21-22 May, I’ll be on my long-awaited and much anticipated (since first booking this back in January 2020!) Masterclass workshop with Alvaro Castagnet!
Basically, there’s a lot going on at the moment and I still have a great deal to do in preparation for the exhibition.
I’ve recently taken delivery of some new frames and a supply of conservation grade mountboard and backing board. I have a lot of mounting and framing to do in a short space of time, all of which is compounded by me also booking us all away on our first camping trip of the year this weekend.
Fingers crossed I’ll have managed to make some progress by this time next week!
